FORTY-EIGHT COVERED MARINA BERTHS will be unveiled at Sanctuary Cove Marina in a first for the industry in the southern hemisphere.
The final stage of Sanctuary Cove Marina’s upgrades, the 14.5m covered berths provide a service for luxury boat owners looking to dock on Australian shores.
There’s been a demand for the covered berths, with the majority of the spaces being booked during construction.
The protective sails have been designed to integrate with Sanctuary Cove’s aesthetic. The shade structures resemble ribbons in the breeze.
Superior Jetties commercial project manager, Andy Vollmer said that the covered berths provided a design challenge: “We took every measure to ensure the facilities would provide the type of protection and care these luxury vessels require, such as the superyachts we welcome regularly, and would integrate perfectly into the precinct.”
“We didn’t have a blueprint to follow or marina to copy which meant we had to find innovative construction solutions to complete structures in or above the water that normally be completed on land.”
The Superior Jetties team included sub-contractor Vector Shade Structures. Owner and director Sam Burke says using “Using Mehler Technologies VALMEX® FR 700, a 100% waterproof fabric that blocks out light and UV transmission, to create the shade sails that each weigh 3.5 tonnes and a total of 275 tonnes of steel across the entire project, we look forward to seeing the shades become a pillar of the marine community and have the ribbon-resemblant structure become a Gold Coast landmark.”
The first look at Australia’s only covered marina happened at the Sanctuary Cove Marina Family Day on Saturday, 13 November. There are a few undercover berths still available.
