Race 1: Luna Rossa Has Taken Main Sail Damage – Disqualified Due To Onboard Support

Before the start, we can saw that Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli had an incident with their main sail, one of the carbon fibre batons which support the twin-skinned race sails had poked through the sail.

It is not possible to race in that state.

At 2:43pm they are dropping the sail to swap this baton out – they cannot race like this so they are being practical and doing to the fix now. They may need to take a delay card – but maybe the high winds (while creating the issue) may also give the possibility to swap out the sail before the delayed start.

At 2:50pm local time the race is announced to start – winds are now within the limits.

Luna Rossa are immediately DISQUALIFIED as their support team are onboard the boat after the race is due to start, successfully passing the 5 minute warning.

INEOS Britannia take the win, by Italy disqualification.

The Score is now:

–  2 WINS to INEOS
