From the 23rd to the 25th of November, the world’s elite sailors will battle it out over three action-packed days, with racing scheduled between 14:00 and 15:30 GST on Saturday and Sunday.

This season promises to be monumental, not only for its record-breaking scale but also for the injection of new talent and teams. Having already arrived in Dubai, the New Zealand Black Foils team is soaking up the dynamic atmosphere, ready to prove their mettle on the waters of an uncharted racecourse.

Meet the Black Foils

The Black Foils are led by sailing powerhouses Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, who serve as Co-CEOs and Driver and Wing Trimmer, respectively. Joining them is a formidable crew, featuring:

  • Louis Sinclair – Grinder
  • Marcus Hansen – Grinder

Takahashi’s addition, straight from the Youth America’s Cup, is a major highlight. His transition into SailGP brings a fresh perspective, paired with the invaluable expertise of Sam Meech, a new addition to the coaching team.

“It’s an exciting time for SailGP,” says Co-CEO Blair Tuke. “We’re heading into the new season with new teams, new faces, and fresh dynamics. With that comes unpredictability. It won’t necessarily be the same teams at the front of racing from previous years. It’ll be about who can build momentum the quickest.”

Excitement and Unpredictability in the Air

The first regatta sets the tone for a season brimming with possibilities. With six fleet races determining the event’s finalists, each team will be vying to secure their spot in the high-stakes Final. The scoring system ensures no room for error: consistency in fleet races is key, but victory in the Final ultimately crowns the event champion.

For the Black Foils, this is an opportunity to blend their winning systems with fresh energy. “We’re confident that our combination of new blood, experience, and proven processes will allow us to gel quickly and push for wins,” Tuke added.

Unpredictable Waters Await

The Dubai event brings a unique challenge—an unfamiliar location that levels the playing field and demands adaptability from all teams. This unpredictability has fueled excitement within the camps, with seasoned veterans and newcomers alike eager to make their mark.

With a refreshed lineup, new venues, and an electrifying competitive spirit, the 2025 SailGP season is poised to deliver edge-of-your-seat action. For the Black Foils, Dubai is just the beginning of a journey that promises triumphs, challenges, and unforgettable moments on the water.

Stay tuned as the racing begins—this is one season opener you won’t want to miss!
