Auckland is set to host the second event of SailGP’s record-breaking 2025 season, as the world’s fastest F50s prepare to race on January 17-18. The ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix promises electrifying competition, with teams unveiling full crew line-ups ahead of the regatta.

New faces and strategic moves

This season’s Auckland event introduces fresh talent and significant team changes:

  • Will Ryan, a former Swiss wing trimmer, has joined the Australian team, adding expertise to their formidable line-up.
  • Paul Goodison, who previously drove for Emirates GBR, takes on a coaching role with Mubadala Brazil, bringing valuable experience to the team.
  • Maelle Frascari, who raced with France, now joins Red Bull Italy as a strategist.
  • Brad Farrand, a reserve athlete, and Matthew Barber, a grinder, join Red Bull Italy and Spain, respectively.

These roster changes highlight the dynamic nature of SailGP, with athletes and staff bringing fresh perspectives and skills to their teams.

The F50 fleet gears up

The Auckland regatta promises thrilling action as the F50 fleet, renowned for its speed and precision, takes on the challenges of Kiwi waters. Teams have finalised their line-ups, blending seasoned sailors with emerging talent.

The New Zealand team, racing on home waters, will carry the hopes of a passionate crowd eager to see their team excel.
