The Auckland Boat Show 2025 is set to be the largest in New Zealand’s history, featuring over 1.3 kilometres of boats on the water and 200 more displayed on land. Taking place from 6–9 March at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre and Jellicoe Harbour, this year’s event promises an unparalleled experience, showcasing the latest innovations and luxury yachts from around the world.

New Zealand’s growing demand for larger yachts

New Zealand’s passion for boating continues to evolve, with an increasing appetite for larger, more luxurious vessels. Show organiser Stacey Cook has seen this trend firsthand.

“In our 24-year history, yacht sizes at the show have grown significantly,” says Cook. “This year’s largest vessel spans 29 metres, reflecting a rising demand for spacious, high-end boating experiences.”

Luxury charter yachts are also gaining popularity, offering Kiwis the chance to explore local and international waters in style.

International yachts making their mark

Some of those large yachts now entering the New Zealand market are from the Greek brand, Omikron Yachts, which has recently been awarded the prestigious European Powerboat Award for its OT-60 and launched a new flagship OT-80 off the back of that success.

“We’ve recognised the need for bigger and bigger yachts to grace the sparkling Waitemata,” says Paul McDonald of McD Yachts, the brokerage house introducing both the OT-60 and OT-80 to New Zealand.

“People’s yachts are an extension of their lifestyle – so going from their spacious homes or holiday homes leaves them seeking a similar experience of comfort and space aboard their yacht. In addition, having a 60 ft plus motor yacht like the Omikron OT-60 gives the opportunity of cruising Fiji or around the Pacific which gives a great winter vacation and also extends the usability of the yacht throughout the year,” adds McDonald.

“This trend will only continue.”

Sunreef Catamarans debut in New Zealand

For the first time, Sunreef Yachts will exhibit two models at a New Zealand boat show. The 23-metre Sunreef 70, Ginette, available for sale and charter through Ocean Independence, accommodates eight guests and three crew. It comes equipped with a five-metre Smuggler Marine RIB, paddleboards, windsurfing gear, kiteboarding, scuba diving equipment, and game fishing gear—plus a private chef for an ultra-luxury experience.

Ocean Independence’s Blair MacLeod highlights the increasing appeal of catamarans.

“A catamaran offers unmatched stability, comfort, and space,” says MacLeod. “More owners and charterers are prioritising easy handling and a closer connection to the water.”

In the brokerage section, a custom-built Sunreef 80-ft motor yacht will also be on display. Designed for extended voyages, this yacht features four luxurious staterooms, a hydraulic swim platform, and expansive lounging areas.

Experience the future of boating

Visitors to the Auckland Boat Show 2025 will not only see the latest marine technology but also experience it firsthand through sea trials on the Waitematā Harbour. With 400 boats and a diverse range of exhibitors, the event remains New Zealand’s premier showcase for cutting-edge vessels and marine innovation.

New Zealand continues to lead in marine advancements, with the show serving as a launchpad for new technology and sustainable boating solutions.

“We’re a marine nation, and we take pride in developing safer, faster, and more sustainable ways to enjoy the water,” says Cook.
