Few things make me prouder than a story of Kiwi success. And here’s one in the New Zealand marine sector. Vessev, the pioneering New Zealand company at the global forefront of electric hydrofoiling vessels, has taken a major step in its worldwide expansion with the establishment of its first international office in the United States. This move marks a significant milestone in the company’s mission to revolutionise marine transport through sustainable, high-performance technology.

Josh Trout appointed as Director of North America

To spearhead its U.S. operations, Vessev has appointed Josh Trout as Director of North America. Trout brings over two decades of experience in marine technology, sales, and operations, making him the ideal candidate to lead Vessev’s expansion. His extensive knowledge of the electric and hybrid marine industry, coupled with a strong leadership background, will be instrumental in establishing Vessev’s presence in the American market.

In his new role, Trout will oversee the production of Vessev’s cutting-edge hydrofoiling vessels in the U.S., drive business development, and enhance customer engagement. His expertise will help accelerate Vessev’s mission to bring sustainable marine transport solutions to commercial operators and private customers.

Bringing New Zealand innovation to the U.S.

Vessev CEO Eric Laakmann expressed his excitement about the expansion, stating,

“As an American, nothing would make me prouder than bringing New Zealand innovation to the States. There’s no shortage of possibilities in the land of opportunity, and this is an important step forward for us at Vessev.”

Chairman John Scott echoed these sentiments, adding,

“We are thrilled to welcome Josh to the Vessev team. His vision and ambition align perfectly with Vessev’s. His deep experience in sales, operations, and customer engagement, combined with his passion for marine innovation, make him the perfect leader to drive Vessev’s growth in the U.S. market.”

Expanding production and creating jobs

A key aspect of Vessev’s U.S. expansion is the potential to build its state-of-the-art vessels locally. Trout highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “We are exploring opportunities to manufacture our vessels in the U.S., which will not only create jobs but also lay the foundation for our service and support business in the region.”

Vessev’s flagship vessel, the VS-9, is already making waves in the marine industry. As the world’s first commercial electric hydrofoiling ferry, it offers a smoother, quieter, and more energy-efficient ride compared to traditional vessels. With operating costs up to 90% lower than conventional boats and zero emissions, Vessev’s technology is poised to transform water transport in the U.S.
