Quality Marine Clothing (QMC) has carved out a strong presence in the marine industry since its foundation in 2017. Launched by two seasoned marine enthusiasts—Duncan Curnow and Tony Liddy—the company emerged from a simple but smart idea: offer a curated range of premium apparel, specifically suited to the Asia-Pacific climate, and make it easily accessible. Stocked locally. Current styles. Fit for purpose.
Now, with its New Zealand operation up and running in the heart of Auckland’s Viaduct precinct, QMC is doubling down on its promise of providing quality gear with personal service—this time closer to Kiwi clients.
The Auckland office will be run by Michelle Crooks, a well-known figure in the local superyacht and marine industry. With years of experience in the uniform and branding space, Michelle brings both knowledge and established relationships to the QMC brand.
“While my own business was doing really well, I saw how much more I could offer with QMC behind me,” says Crooks. “The support structure, the product range, the systems—they’ve really nailed it. This expansion just makes sense for the marine industry in New Zealand.”
Previously trading locally as Uniform Shelf, the business has now been fully integrated under the QMC brand, operating as Quality Marine Clothing New Zealand. The transition strengthens QMC’s reach across the Pacific, adding to their offices in Sydney, Cairns, the Gold Coast and Hong Kong, along with a growing footprint in key marine hubs like Fiji and Tahiti.
Sales and Marketing Director Duncan Curnow says the move is more than just a new office—it’s a signal to the industry.
“New Zealand has always been a key market for us, so establishing a real presence here is a natural evolution,” he explains. “It’s been a long time in the making, and we’re genuinely excited to now be on the ground, providing even more responsive service and support to our New Zealand clients.”
QMC is known for more than just clothing. Their offer includes custom decoration and embellishment, artist impressions of entire crew uniform packages, and even bespoke garment production when off-the-shelf solutions don’t cut it. The business model is simple: help clients build “the look” without the hassle.
Their online catalogue showcases hand-picked pieces from top marine and lifestyle apparel suppliers—brands chosen for their quality, performance, and suitability to local conditions. It’s not about carrying every product under the sun. It’s about carrying what works—and having it in stock.
For New Zealand’s growing fleet of commercial vessels, superyachts, tourism operators, and marine events, this expansion offers something both practical and timely: direct access to expert guidance, high-quality apparel, and swift turnaround times, right here on the waterfront.
The new QMC New Zealand office officially opened on 7 May 2025, and can be found at the rear of 10 Jellicoe Street, Corner of Daldy Street, Auckland.
