The 2026 New Zealand Millennium Cup is shaping up to be the strongest edition yet. Set for 31 January to 3 February in Auckland, the superyacht regatta continues to grow in scale and international profile, with interest arriving earlier — and from larger yachts — than ever before.
“After an incredible event this year, we’re thrilled to have yachts queuing to enter,” says event organiser Stacey Cook. “The calibre of boats lining up for 2026 is exceptional — including well-known international competitors who’ve never raced in the Southern Hemisphere.”
The regatta has become a standout on the Pacific racing calendar, offering a mix of high-level competition and low-key charm. Run on Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour, the course delivers tactical challenges and striking scenery — the same waters that have hosted America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race events.
Big boats, good vibes
The 2025 regatta welcomed ten yachts, including the 81-metre Sea Eagle for her global racing debut. The competition was fierce, with repeat entrant 34.1-metre Kawil ultimately claiming her second Millennium Cup victory on the final day.
“It was a great race — we’re proud just to be part of the group that’s here,” said Kawil’s owner.

Other contenders included Sharlou, Sassafras, and Janice of Wyoming.

But it’s not just about the racing. The event is praised for its atmosphere — a balance of professionalism and approachability. “It’s the most down-to-earth, real, fun and welcoming experience,” said Perseus^3 captain Burger van der Walt, winner of the 2024 edition.
Auckland and beyond
The regatta is headquartered in a private enclave in downtown Auckland, giving crews a central base and easy access to the city’s superyacht facilities. With world-class refit yards, marinas, and a vibrant harbourside culture, Auckland offers a fitting platform for a global regatta.
Cook will attend Palma and Tahiti to meet with potential entries, offering guidance on Pacific itineraries and the appeal of racing in New Zealand.
“This is a must-do for adventurous yachts looking to race somewhere different,” she says.
