From Tenob to Boatgear

Founded in 1973 by Ted Nobbs, Tenob began with a single product—the now iconic Rise & Fall Outboard Bracket. That same bracket is still made and sold today, part of a line-up that includes the world-renowned Tenob Big Bung, battery boxes, bailers, cleats, and fittings.

Over the decades, Tenob became much more than a manufacturer. It grew into a major distributor of international marine brands such as Quick, Glendinning, Moeller, Bennett, and Roca, becoming a central figure in New Zealand’s boating industry.

In 2014, Danny and Taniya Bassi took ownership and began shaping the business for a new era. They expanded the range, relocated to larger premises in Auckland, and strengthened OEM supply relationships with local boatbuilders.

Now, with the name Boatgear, they’re making the next logical step—one that better reflects the scope of the business both here and overseas.

The official announcement

Boatgear released a press statement to coincide with their name change.

Tenob Wholesale Marine announces rebrand to Boatgear

We are pleased to announce that Tenob Wholesale Marine is officially rebranding and will now be trading under the new name Boatgear.

This exciting change comes as our business enters a new era of growth and expansion. Over the years, our product range and international brand agencies have grown significantly, extending far beyond the scope of our original offering. To better reflect the extensiveness of our marine products and services, we’ve chosen a name that clearly communicates who we are and what we do.

Boatgear is a name that’s simple, memorable, and unmistakably understood across international markets. It captures the essence of our business—quality marine gear and equipment for boating professionals and enthusiasts alike.

While our name is changing, our commitment to providing the same trusted team, service, support, and product excellence remains stronger than ever. This rebrand marks an important milestone as we continue to grow, innovate, and serve the marine industry under a name that truly represents our vision and values.

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to navigating this exciting new chapter with you as Boatgear.

— Danny Bassi
