Gold Coast-based DockPro has taken out the BIA Sustainability in the Boating Industry Award, announced at the Sydney Boat Show’s official opening at Sydney Olympic Park.

BIA CEO Andrew Fielding praised DockPro as a worthy winner, describing it as a family-owned company that has long championed innovative marine solutions to protect boat hulls from marine growth.

“We would like to thank the BIA for this honour. Our team back home will be thrilled,” Sandra Barber, DockPro Director, said. “As lifelong boaties, our love for the water inspired this business from the beginning. We’re passionate about making boating easier, cleaner and more sustainable — and committed to protecting our oceans so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”

SeaPen at the core

DockPro’s flagship product, the SeaPen, was launched in 2004 and has since seen thousands of installations worldwide. The system allows boats to remain free of marine growth without the need for antifoul or hauling out.

By DockPro’s estimate, SeaPens have already prevented around 300,000 litres of antifoul from being applied. The pens are built on the Gold Coast using recyclable, marine-safe HDPE, a material with a 50-year lifespan that is completely inert.

Smarter, cleaner manufacturing

The company has also invested heavily in lean manufacturing and automation, recently introducing a Pathfinder CNC machine that has boosted efficiency, reduced energy use, and minimised waste.

Barber said these changes reflect the business’s wider goal of blending sustainability with innovation. “We want to keep finding smarter ways to build and support products that let boaties spend more time on the water, without leaving a footprint behind.”
