Emergency services were called at about 3:35 pm yesterday (10 August 2025) after reports that a man had entered the water from a boat in the vicinity of the Auckland’s Outboard Boating Club‘s marina. Police located the man in the water and brought his body ashore at the Outboard Boating Club, where efforts were made to revive him. Despite rapid medical attention, he died at the scene.
Police have confirmed the death will be referred to the Coroner. The man’s identity has not yet been released, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. It is not confirmed whether the boat he fell from was berthed at the club or elsewhere in the harbour.
St John Ambulance said they were notified at 3:32 pm and sent one ambulance, a first response unit, a rapid response unit, and a manager to the scene. Paramedics were not required to transport the man to hospital.
The Outboard Boating Club, located on Tāmaki Drive (as you drive east from the city centre), is a major Auckland marina and boating hub with facilities including 15 launching ramps, a clubhouse, and direct access to the Hauraki Gulf. The nearby Ngapipi Road boat sheds (in Ōrākei) are also close to the waterway where the incident occurred.
It remains unclear whether the man’s fall was due to a medical event, loss of balance, or other factors. Police have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
The Coroner will determine the official cause of death, and further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
