Jet Boating NZ gears up for The Wheel Magician National Rally 2025

Published

After the success of last year’s Clutha River event, Jet Boating New Zealand is heading north. The Wheel Magician National Rally 2025 will take place on the Rangitīkei River at Bulls on 11 October, hosted by JBNZ Central Districts. Crews will face a series of skill-based challenges where precision and teamwork outweigh horsepower, with an evening prizegiving in Palmerston North. The action continues with the North Island River Tour, 12–17 October, exploring five spectacular waterways in a week-long celebration of jet boating.

The Jet Boating NZ Mitre 10 National Rally 2024 on the Clutha River near Cromwell delivered a spirited mix of camaraderie and precision. Twenty-two boats from five branches braved crisp spring conditions, taking on challenges that rewarded finesse and teamwork over raw speed. From radio drills to “Barrels of Fun”, every task highlighted skill and cooperation. Victories were shared across divisions, with both seasoned boaters and new generations making their mark. With heritage boats, family crews, and plenty of laughter on display, the day captured the essence of Kiwi jet boating and set the tone for the year ahead.

Thrills and Precision at the Jet Boating NZ Mitre 10 National Rally 2024

Building on that success, Jet Boating New Zealand have confirmed the next chapter. The Wheel Magician National Rally 2025 will be held on the Rangitīkei River at Bulls on Saturday 11 October, hosted by JBNZ Central Districts. Entries are now open, inviting crews from around the country to test precision boat handling and teamwork in a format where horsepower counts for nothing and fun is everything. Scrutineering takes place Friday afternoon, with competition on Saturday followed by a buffet dinner and prizegiving at the Manawatu Golf Club in Palmerston North. The evening is open to all JBNZ members, families, and crews – a celebration of the sport and its people.

North Island River Tour 2025

For those who want to keep the adventure going, the North Island River Tour follows directly after the rally, running from Sunday 12 to Friday 17 October. Presented by JBNZ Central Districts and The Wheel Magician, the tour offers six unforgettable days exploring some of the North Island’s most iconic rivers.

From the dramatic gorges and playful rock rapids of the Upper Rangitīkei to the broad, scenic runs of the Lower Rangitīkei, each leg offers something different. The Ngaruroro’s braided channels – often compared to Canterbury’s Waimakariri – provide constantly changing lines, while the historic Manawatū Gorge reveals hidden tributaries. The journey concludes on the Ruamahanga River, a peaceful run through farmland and native bush.

With relaxed boating, shared lunches, and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, the River Tour is as much about friendships and shared experiences as it is about the rivers themselves. Together, the rally and tour form a week-long celebration of jet boating at its best.

Boatgear (formerly Tenob)

The story of Boatgear is one of success, in fact one of the most successful in the New Zealand marine industry. It began back in 1973 when Ted Nobbs, and yes, that’s where the original company name, Tenob, name came from, began the business. At that time the company developed the Tenob rise & fall outboard bracket and now, nearly 50 years later, the range of outboard brackets has grown and is almost unchanged from the original. It is sold all around the world. However, that is just one...
