Lanzarote steps into the spotlight

The world’s leading monohull grand prix circuit, the 52 Super Series, has unveiled its 2026 season – with a major new twist. For the first time, the fleet will head to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, where two midseason regattas will be staged just weeks apart.

The move comes as summer conditions in the Mediterranean grow less reliable. Lanzarote’s steady tradewinds and wave conditions make it a natural choice for top-flight sailing, joining the island’s established reputation as a host of Olympic classes and international regattas.

“Lanzarote has perfect sailing conditions year-round,” says Rafael Lasso Lorenzo, manager of Marina Rubicón. “Hosting the 52 Super Series is a great opportunity to showcase this.”

2026 calendar confirmed

The 2026 circuit will feature five regattas across Europe and the Atlantic:

  • May 4–9: Puerto Portals, Mallorca – a familiar opener on the Bay of Palma.
  • June 15–20: Rolex TP52 World Championship, Porto Cervo, Sardinia – returning to Yacht Club Costa Smeralda after 15 years.
  • July 20–25: Lanzarote, Marina Rubicón – the island’s southern marina steps into the spotlight.
  • August 24–29: Lanzarote, Puerto Calero – a popular venue with top pros, now under a renewed concession.
  • October 5–10: Valencia – the season finale returns to the former America’s Cup base.

Puerto Calero’s CEO, José Juan Calero, says the return of the class has particular significance: “It is the first year of our newly extended concession period. We’ll be making major investments in infrastructure upgrades and innovation – and this event will set the tone for that future.”

Strong fleet, new faces

The fleet itself remains in healthy shape, despite farewells to American Magic Quantum Racing and Phoenix at the end of 2025. Organisers expect 13–15 boats to line up next season, bolstered by fresh energy.

Among the newcomers: a Swedish team led by Joakim Sundberg with a new Botín Partners TP52 in build at King Marine, and Brazil’s Caballo Loco Sailing Team, which has acquired Phoenix. Brazilian champion Jorge Zarif will call tactics.

Valencia to close the season

The circuit will conclude in Valencia, a venue that has already delivered thrilling finales. The 2023 showdown went down to the final race, and organisers believe the port city is the perfect stage for another high-drama climax – both on the water and ashore, where the traditional end-of-season prizegiving promises to match the intensity of the racing.

The circuit in great shape

Now entering its second decade, the 52 Super Series shows no signs of slowing. With steady growth, iconic venues and a commitment to excellence both afloat and ashore, the 2026 calendar underscores why this circuit is considered the very pinnacle of inshore grand prix racing.
