Skippered by Jim Murray, the 2016 Pac52 left Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour at 1000 hrs yesterday (Friday, 24 October 2025) and was among the first to surge ahead after the start. Within two hours, Callisto had climbed into second place behind the 27-metre Lucky, where she remained for the rest of the race.

The team passed Flat Rock a little after midday at 1:05 p.m. and Sail Rock at 5:14 p.m., maintaining steady progress as the breeze shifted along the Northland coast. Conditions remained fair, with lighter patches overnight before the wind filled again closer to Russell.

While Lucky took line honours earlier in the morning, Callisto’s consistent pace and disciplined sailing kept her well clear of the chasing pack, including Mayhem and Wired.

Handicap results are still to be confirmed, but for Callisto, this finish cements her reputation as one of the most competitive and well-sailed entries in this year’s fleet.
