One dead after failing to return from crayfishing trip off Napier coast

One person is dead and another had to be rescued from the water after they failed to return from a crayfishing trip off the Napier coast this morning.

Police said the alarm was raised at 1.40pm today and Coastguard Hawke’s Bay were deployed to help with the search.

One of the missing people was found in the water at 3.10pm. They were taken back to shore and checked over by ambulance staff.

The second person was found unresponsive in the water a short time later.

Police said they were unable to be revived and the death will be referred to the coroner.
