The water was lively at Keith, but Ramjet Racing kept its cool. After a messy opening run, Australian driver Phonsy Mullan and Kiwi navigator Niketa Wells settled in, found their rhythm, and turned pressure into pace. By the final, the pair delivered a clean, clinical lap in 46.165 seconds to win the Unlimited Class at South Australia’s Spitwater Arena. It wasn’t about fireworks — it was about control.
This result mattered. Round 1 ended early for the team. Twenty four hours before Keith they posted that the focus was simple, test upgrades and bank data. Twenty four hours later they posted something better. “Winner winner chicken dinner. Successful weekend of racing… Phonsy Mullan took out the win for the Unlimited Class in the Ramjet machine with a blistering time of 46.16.”
How the day unfolded
Mullan showed intent from the first laps. In Qual 3 Ramjet topped the sheet with 47.384. He lowered it to 46.563 in Qual 4. In the Top 6 he posted 48.677 while keeping margin in hand. The final run was the one that mattered. Ramjet lit the pumps and closed the deal.

The package
Ramjet is a Pulse hull with an LS 587 at its heart. The jet unit is Ramjet’s own. The sponsors read like a who’s who of go fast. GM Motorsport, Ramjet Products, Ripshift, Australia Speed, Turbosmart, and Western General Bodyworks keep the programme sharp. Mullan, born in 1974 and based in Melton, runs GM Motorsport by day. Wells, born in 1998 and from Waiuku, brings a cool voice to the cockpit. It is a tidy trans Tasman pairing.
Form and legacy
Mullan is no stranger to New Zealand fans. Earlier this year he completed jetsprint’s rare feat. Australian title, New Zealand title, and the UIM Unlimited World Title in a single season. He also became the first Australian to win the Unlimited NZ Title. The Keith win shows the edge remains. It also moves him back up the Australian standings after the Round 1 DNF.
There was more for the Mullan family at Keith. Nate Mullan won the LS Class in Ripshift with a 51.790 final. Bastian Mullan took second in Group A behind Kiwi winners Ollie Silverton and Amanda Kittow. The family sweep underlines the depth in the team garage.
What’s next for Ramjet Racing?
Keith was a set piece. The upgrades work. The crew is settled. The lines are clean.
Next on the horizon for Phonsy Mullan and Niketa Wells is a return to New Zealand. The Ramjet crew are officially entered in the 2025/2026 New Zealand Jet Sprint Championship, marking the Australian champion’s comeback to Kiwi waters after his 2025 Triple Crown season. Their entry in the Southern Jet Superboat Class will put them head-to-head with New Zealand’s best, including former world title rivals and past winners at Whanganui and Featherston. For Wells, a Waiuku local, it’s a chance to race at home; for Mullan, it’s unfinished business on familiar turf.
New Zealand rounds will demand more of what Ramjet delivered in Australia. Fans here know how hard the Unlimited class bites. Ramjet arrive with speed in hand and a navigator with Kiwi roots. That always goes down well on this side of the ditch.
Boating New Zealand will follow Ramjet Racing across the season.
