Scanstrut Connect keeps things clean and simple on board

Most of us don’t need bells and whistles on the boat. We want gear that works, doesn’t corrode after one season, and doesn’t turn into a project when it’s meant to make life easier. Scanstrut’s new Scanstrut Connect range seems to come from that same headspace, and their Cold Water Outlet is a good example of it.

It’s a small fitting that gives you quick access to cold water without dragging hoses across the cockpit. Open the lid, clip in the hose, and you’re rinsing the deck, the dive kit, the rods, or whatever else has picked up salt and bait that day. Simple. The kit ships with a three metre coiled hose and a stainless sprayer with a jet for stubborn jobs and a softer shower pattern for everything else.

The thing that stands out is how tidy it is. The unit sits flush against the surface, the lid stays shut underway, and the fitting doesn’t feel like it’ll seize or crumble. Scanstrut built it with stainless steel and nickel plated brass, and rated it to IP68 and IP69K when the lid’s closed, which means it’s unlikely to throw in the towel after a couple of wet summers.

Installation is straightforward. A 38mm holesaw, a built in gasket, and you’re off. Pressure rating is decent at 115 PSI, so it’ll cope fine with most onboard pump setups, whether you’re on a trailer boat or something with a few more systems on board.

Connect itself is broader than just this one water outlet. Scanstrut is rolling out a range of matching fittings for water, power, and solar, all built to the same look and feel. For owners trying to keep things consistent on board rather than patchwork, that’s handy.

None of this is about reinventing the wheel. It’s just a well built bit of gear that solves a common job without fuss. For many Kiwi boaties, that’s worth more than any glossy brochure.
