Mercury reveals new control technologies
Mercury Marine has introduced a group of new helm and propulsion control technologies, unveiled during the Miami International Boat Show.
The systems include the Mercury Keyless System, Boost performance software, a redesigned Premier Joystick, and a new DTS Performance Pedal intended for high-speed boats.
The technologies form part of Mercury’s wider SmartCraft platform, which links engine management, helm controls, and onboard digital systems.
Mercury Marine president John Buelow said the company is continuing to develop propulsion systems that combine mechanical hardware with digital control.
“By launching these innovations together, Mercury delivers a clear message: the future of boating is smarter, more connected, and more intuitive,” Buelow said.
“Each solution addresses a core consumer need such as control, performance, ease of use, and personalisation, while working together to create a more cohesive on-water experience.”
Boost software adds acceleration
The most performance focused release is Boost, a software upgrade that adjusts engine calibration to increase acceleration.
Mercury says the upgrade can deliver between five and 21 percent improvement in mid range acceleration and zero to top speed performance, depending on engine model and installation.
Boost can be installed by authorised dealers on selected Mercury outboards already in service. Mercury says it will also be included on some new engines produced later this year.
Software based upgrades are becoming increasingly common in the marine sector, allowing manufacturers to unlock additional engine performance without hardware modifications.
Keyless starting moves to the water
Mercury has also introduced the Mercury Keyless System, which allows boat owners to unlock, start, and secure their vessel using a mobile device.

The system connects with SmartCraft Connect, integrating engine control, security, and digital connectivity into a single interface.
The system supports both single- and multi-engine installations and can manage configurations with up to six engines.
Mercury says the system is compatible with Mercury outboards rated at 75 horsepower and above.
Updated joystick control
Mercury’s premier joystick has also received a redesign along with updates to the associated display interface.
The new system introduces Dockhook, a function that helps keep the boat positioned alongside a dock while lines are secured.
Other additions include Skyhook repositioning and remote helm Skyhook control, allowing the boat to maintain position using GPS-assisted control.
Mercury has also expanded joystick compatibility to outboard boats fitted with dual bow thrusters, improving lateral movement and low-speed positioning.
Boats fitted with Mercury Autopilot will also gain access to additional functions, including heading hold and position hold.
Foot throttle for high-speed boats
The final product in the launch is the DTS Performance Pedal, a foot-operated throttle designed for high-speed single-engine boats.
The pedal allows the operator to control the throttle with their foot while keeping both hands on the steering wheel.

Mercury says the system is intended for boats capable of 120 km/h or more, including bass boats, small sport boats, and single-engine catamarans.
The pedal uses a new throttle sensor designed to improve control feel and response. Construction uses anodized billet aluminum with a non-slip EVA deck surface and an integrated toe hook to improve stability.
