Dear Editor

Amusing to read Chris Woodhams’ article, ‘Racing to Whangamatā’ [BNZ, February 2024]. What made him think scrimping on a few litres of diesel would make any appreciable difference to the draught of a yacht that displaces around 12 tonnes?
Grant Daniel, by email.

Response from Chris:
Hi Grant

I totally agree! What I love about boating is the daily learning – never again would I risk running out of diesel for 10kg of weight on (yep you are right, 12 ton boat), and another 100kg of water – I madelife hard and made no difference to the outcome of our trip (less the stress and worry of diesel).
Living and learning 😉

Best

C.
