The new Catalyst GT

Catalysts were designed as a chase boat for Emirates Team New Zealand America’s Cup team by Morelli & Melvin. Previously built by Salthouse Boats, Catalysts found a new home with Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders in 2020.

Responding to a client’s request, Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders has created an entirely new Catalyst – the GT. More of a gentlemen’s fast commuter, it is reminiscent of those elegant boats from the 1920s and 30s.

Just launched, the Catalyst GT takes the brand in a new direction, appealing to people who appreciate style and high performance.

A high-speed, luxury guest transport and water sports tender, it has been commissioned for a private resort in the Caribbean. One of two Catalysts that shared yard space, it is completely custom built and entirely different to the other Catalyst one, which is a follow-along superyacht tender.

The Catalyst GT was born out an owner’s request for something special, with a more refined, sophisticated aesthetic, but with high performance.

Lloyd Stevenson’s design department reinterpreted the classic gentleman’s commuter boats from the 1920s and 30s to create a brand-new superstructure – the GT.

The GT will have seating for 30 guests and a reinforced bow, enabling the boat to nose onto sandy beaches and deploy beach-landing stairs from the bow for direct access to the shore.

At 45ft (13.75m), the GT is fully equipped and finished to superyacht standards. With four 300hp Yamaha outboard motors, the Catalyst GT will be good for 50-plus knots. See the next issue of Boating NZ for a more comprehensive story.
