Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour witnessed dramatic scenes after a charter boat outing turned violent, with police stepping in to address escalating tensions. It was reported that the cruise had become “intoxicated”, “acting disorderly” and “fighting”.
According to the NZ Herald, the “booze cruise” took a troubling turn as passengers, reportedly under the influence, engaged in heated confrontations.
The chaos culminated as the vessel docked at the Viaduct at around 5pm on Saturday evening (30/11/2024), where some 13 police officers were on standby to de-escalate the situation and investigate. Although details remain scarce, the incident underscores the challenges of alcohol management aboard recreational charters.

It was reported Police spokesperson said today that “Our staff were not able to establish who exactly had been fighting. However, once docked, two men, aged 21 and 39, were arrested for breach of the peace.” ”Both men were eventually released from custody.”
