First world problems: Rapper’s yacht in flames on river outside Miami’s Booby Trap (risque content warning)

Published

A night of entertainment turned into chaos early Sunday morning as a luxury yacht rented by renowned music producer and rap artist Metro Boomin burst into flames outside the Booby Trap on the River, a popular Miami strip club. The dramatic fire led to the evacuation of the yacht, the strip club, and dozens of startled patrons.

The Incident Unfolds

The 95-foot yacht, docked along the Miami River around 3 a.m., had been rented by Metro Boomin, whose real name is Leland Tyler Wayne. Club security staff first noticed smoke and fire alarms coming from the vessel shortly after its arrival.

Michael Marhefka, Director of Security at Booby Trap on the River, described the scene:

“Around 3 o’clock, the boat arrived. It was Metro Boomin. They were on the boat maybe 30 minutes at the dock when we noticed what sounded like fire alarms going off. When we looked at the boat, we saw smoke. We immediately evacuated.”

The evacuation included roughly 15 guests on the yacht, including Metro Boomin, as well as patrons from the strip club due to its proximity to the fire. No injuries were reported, but witnesses described the fire as immense and terrifying.

Neither party were thwarted in their desire for a memorable (maybe rephrase to: pleasureful) night, after the strip club and yacht were evacuated, an improvised work-station on the dock allowed continued business development.

Note in reading on: the reporter and her supporter were on-site at Booby Trap and some content in the following video may offend unless you understand this.

Videos circulating on social media showed flames engulfing the yacht as onlookers fled the area. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene around 4:05 a.m., finding the vessel fully ablaze. Firefighters battled the flames from both land and water, but the size of the yacht and its fuel load made the operation challenging.

By 7 a.m., the yacht had succumbed to the fire, sinking into the river and damaging two nearby pylons. Fire Rescue spokesperson Nicholas DiGiacomo confirmed the vessel was a total loss:

“Because of how much water the vessel took on, she ended up rolling and capsizing at the dock, unfortunately taking two pylons with her.”

Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has not provided additional details about what may have sparked the blaze. Metro Boomin, known for collaborations with stars like Travis Scott, Drake, and The Weeknd, has yet to comment publicly on the incident.

A Night to Remember (given the indulgence, night to savor?)

While no injuries occurred, the dramatic fire disrupted what was supposed to be an evening of luxury and entertainment. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with large vessels and underscores the skill and dedication of emergency responders who managed to contain the fire.
