Clarisse Crémer’s long-awaited return to Les Sables d’Olonne was nothing short of spectacular. After an arduous solo circumnavigation in the Vendée Globe, the 35-year-old French skipper finally sailed through the iconic channel, greeted by thousands of enthusiastic supporters. A delayed but well-earned celebration
Crémer crossed the Vendée Globe finish line in 11th place on January 29, but her anticipated homecoming was thwarted by severe weather. Storm Herminia forced her to divert to La Rochelle, delaying her passage into the legendary channel of Les Sables d’Olonne. However, when she finally arrived on a sunny February afternoon, the reception was nothing short of extraordinary.
The contrast between the two arrivals was striking. From battling stormy conditions in the Bay of Biscay to a calm and joyous welcome, Crémer described it as experiencing two different finishes:
“In the end, I really won twice: I had two finishes! What joy in this channel. It’s true that having been able to rest a little between my two finishes, I appreciate it all the more. It’s just the party, we celebrate with everyone, it’s so great!”

Crémer’s relationship with the Vendée Globe community is special. She first captured hearts during her 2020-2021 campaign when she became the fastest woman to complete the race. Despite facing immense challenges to secure a boat and sponsorship for the 2024 edition, she returned with determination, sailing L’OCCITANE en Provence to an impressive finish.
