At Boating New Zealand, we are committed to high-quality, independent journalism that reflects the passion, innovation, and heritage of Aotearoa’s boating community. Our content is created with integrity, accuracy, and a deep respect for the marine environment and those who live, work, and play on the water.
Editorial independence
Boating New Zealand is editorially independent. While we work with commercial partners and welcome contributions from across the marine industry, all editorial decisions are made by our in-house team and guided by our values — not by advertisers or sponsors. When we feature commercial products or services, we clearly distinguish between sponsored content, advertorial, and independent editorial.
Subject matter and scope
Our publication covers a wide spectrum of boating and nautical topics. This includes (but is not limited to) boat reviews, owner stories, design and innovation, maritime safety, environmental issues, industry news, yachting and regattas, cruising destinations, restoration projects, and onboard living. Our stories aim to educate, entertain, and inform both experienced boat owners and newcomers alike.
Accuracy and sourcing
We take pride in delivering accurate, well-researched content. Our editorial team strives to verify facts, cite credible sources, and check technical details before publication. Where errors occur, we correct them transparently and in a timely manner. We are open to feedback and take concerns about accuracy seriously.
Respect and fairness
Our articles are written with respect for the people, communities, and cultures we cover. We aim to be fair in our reporting and mindful of context. We avoid sensationalism and strive to offer balanced perspectives, especially when covering contentious issues or regulatory matters.
Environmental responsibility
As a voice within the marine space, we recognise the importance of protecting New Zealand’s waterways, coastline, and ocean habitats. We give voice to marine conservation efforts, sustainable boating practices, and innovations that support long-term environmental stewardship.
Community and reader focus
Boating New Zealand is made for boaters, by boaters. Our readers are experienced mariners, weekend cruisers, first-time buyers, commercial operators, racers, restorers, and adventurers. We strive to reflect the diversity and depth of New Zealand’s boating life while remaining accessible to all who share a love of the water.
