You don’t expect a former military contractor to waltz into Monaco with one of the flashiest new chase boat line-ups of the year — but that’s exactly what Italy’s MED Group is doing. Introducing TYKUN, a new trio of high-performance aluminium tenders designed in collaboration with architect Tommaso Spadolini.

For more than 30 years, MED Group has supplied professional boats to public agencies, law enforcement, and NATO-aligned defence clients. Now, the company is flipping that same technical DNA into the luxury space with purpose-built vessels that blend extreme speed with fine Italian finishing.

TYKUN chase boats come in 8.5m, 10.5m and 12.5m variants, all crafted from lightweight aluminium. That’s a notable departure from the usual fibreglass or carbon fibre builds in this class — and a practical one. Aluminium allows owners to modify layouts throughout the boat’s life, offering real flexibility as needs evolve.

“We know that owners will appreciate the flexibility of the design and layout,” says Spadolini, who shaped the boats to blend “pleasure, performance, and style.” From fabrics and finishes to hull geometry, almost every element is open to personalisation.

TYKUN boats are engineered to top 55 knots and perform in rough seas. That stability and speed are hallmarks of the company’s defence arm, MED DEFENSE — a division known for its NATO-certified RIBs and rugged utility platforms.

Marco Galimberti, CEO of MED Group, puts it plainly: “These boats combine the power and grit of a military vessel with the elegance and comfort of a superyacht tender.”

The first 10.5m TYKUN will debut at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show, with the first 12.5m model already commissioned and scheduled for launch in 2026. It’s a bold move for MED, but not a reckless one — the Cervia-based shipyard employs 60 craftspeople and has plans to expand into a new facility next year to meet demand.
