Smartgyro has announced a new battery powered integration for its SG20 gyroscopic stabiliser, allowing owners to enjoy uninterrupted stabilisation even when the generator is switched off.
The latest update reflects Smartgyro’s focus on real world onboard comfort. With battery power now supporting the SG20, owners can benefit from smooth, quiet operation at anchor or between destinations, eliminating one of the most common sources of background noise on mid size yachts.
Designed for the 40 to 55 foot segment, the system allows the SG20 to run silently for extended periods, making it ideal for evening meals at anchor, overnight stays, or peaceful downtime on the water.
“Owners today expect comfort that is seamless and quiet,” said Carlo Gazerro, Sales Manager at Smartgyro. “This integration answers a clear need by delivering powerful stabilisation without the constant hum of a generator. It gives owners more freedom and makes the system easier for dealers to recommend and tailor.”
Developed from owner feedback
The project originated following direct feedback from owners who wanted stabilisation without running generators continuously. On many boats in this size range, smaller generators operate at high RPMs and can dominate the onboard soundscape.
In response, Smartgyro developed a flexible power solution that allows the SG20 to operate on battery power while maintaining full stabilisation performance and system reliability.
“We work closely with owners and shipyards to improve comfort, efficiency, and onboard experience,” said Fabrizio Stifani, R&D Manager at Smartgyro. “This project is the result of that dialogue and is already delivering strong results in the field.”
Proven in service
The battery integration has been tested on board a Ferretti 52, pairing the SG20 with a 6 kWh battery pack from Mastervolt. After two years of operation, the system continues to deliver consistent stabilisation with extended silent running.
Approved configurations include Mastervolt systems, with a Victron option to follow.
