New Zealand wingfoiler Kosta Gladiadis produced a blistering Day 3 performance at the Formula Wing Youth World Championships in Switzerland, surging into second overall and strengthening his push for a world championship medal.
The 18-year-old continued his breakthrough international season on Lake Silvaplana, producing a string of top results to remain firmly in the hunt for the world title heading into the championship’s gold-fleet phase.
After four long-distance races on the opening day of competition, the Manly Sailing Club rider was locked in a tie for first place on six points alongside Italy’s Ernesto De Amicis.
Racing was scheduled for Wednesday, but a lack of breeze meant no races could be completed, leaving the standings unchanged.
When racing resumed overnight (NZ time), Gladiadis was among the standout performers in ideal Maloja conditions as competitors switched to short-track racing — posting two race wins and four second-place finishes across eight races.

However, De Amicis proved virtually untouchable, winning all eight races to extend his advantage at the top of the standings.
After 12 races completed, Gladiadis sits second overall, 4.5 points behind the leader, while Australia’s Banjo Nicholson occupies third place.
Gladiadis capped the day by winning the final race of the session, ensuring he remains well within striking distance as the regatta enters its most important stage.
The qualifying series has now concluded, with the top 20 riders advancing to the Gold Fleet, where the battle for the world championship will be decided over the coming days.
