The Lithuanian shipyard behind the Marex range of cabin cruisers has announced a substantial expansion of its production facility in Kaunas, with an 11,000 m² purpose-built hall set to open in winter 2027.
The new building joins an existing 28,000 m² site and represents the single largest capital investment in the company’s history. When complete, it will give Marex the capacity to construct three-deck vessels approaching 55 feet in length, a capability not previously available at the Lithuanian facility.
Central to the expansion is a focus on manufacturing intelligence rather than simply floor space. The hall will incorporate Compact Twin vertical automated warehousing from Weland Solutions, designed to deliver components directly to workers on the production line. Energy infrastructure includes a 350-kW solar array and a 222 kW Viessmann geothermal heat pump system providing both heating and cooling.
A second 50-metre hull testing pool will be installed alongside the new showroom, which will serve as a dedicated venue for dealers, partners, press and prospective customers to experience the full Marex range under one roof.
General Manager Saulius Pajárskas described the project as infrastructure for the next phase of the business rather than a straightforward capacity increase. “This isn’t just about space,” he said. “It’s about building the right infrastructure: hull testing, automated warehousing, a proper showroom, and energy systems that can support it all.”
The development is forecast to generate up to 100 additional jobs in the Kaunas region.
Founded in Norway in 1973, Marex Boats currently employs more than 400 people and produces six cruiser models ranging from 9.5 to 14 metres. The brand holds multiple European Motorboat of the Year and European Powerboat of the Year titles.
