Italian superyacht builder Sanlorenzo has signed a long-term partnership with BYD Energy Storage, naming the Chinese battery manufacturer as its Technology Supplier and Official Battery Supplier. The agreement, announced 29 June, includes an ongoing joint research and development programme rather than a one-off supply deal.
Sanlorenzo says the R&D work will explore how energy storage technology can be applied to produce yachts that are quieter, lower-impact and more intelligently managed. The company hasn’t released technical details on battery capacity, system specifications, or which models will carry the technology first.
The partnership sits under Sanlorenzo’s “Road to 2030” programme, the company’s stated pathway for reducing the environmental impact of its yachts by the end of the decade. Sanlorenzo describes the BYD agreement as reinforcing that commitment.
