Boaties who use the Whitianga Esplanade Boat Ramp will need to work around a three-day closure later this month. Thames-Coromandel District Council is carrying out maintenance dredging to clear sediment that’s reduced navigable water depths for vessels using the ramp, next to the Whitianga Wharf, closing it to the public from 23 to 25 September.
The sediment build-up has created a navigational hazard for boaties, raising the risk of grounding, particularly around low tide.
