More sea trials, shared boating and creative approaches to getting on the water will sit alongside the traditional Auckland Boat Show line up next April.
It’s part of a deliberate approach to bring more and new people into boating and to respond to the ever-evolving market. Auckland was always known as the ‘city of sails’ – but increasingly people are looking at different and more flexible ways ways of owning boats and going boating.

“This is showing up at the Auckland Boat Show with a continued focus on trailer boats, amphibious boats and different types of shared or subscription boating,” says Stacey Cook. “The sea trial zone at this year’s event was hugely successful. One of our exhibitors took more than 400 people out and we are building in more space for sea trials to accommodate demand from the industry.”
“We are also noticing more amphibious boats each year – this makes sense, New Zealand’s coastline is so well suited to it and it eliminates the need for tow vehicles, trailers and boat ramps.”
Stacey says that shared/subscription boating will also be a focus. “This is a great starting point to get new boaties out onto the water and experiencing New Zealands waters, something we will be highlighting this summer season”
“Hopefully these people will go on and purchase their own boat and discover a lifelong love of boating.”
She says watersports, like foiling, were on display last year, and visitors can expect more of that in 2027. “You’ll also see more of our marketing focused on new groups, and a new marketing campaign and website coming out soon,” she says.
The 2027 Auckland Boat Show will be held from 1-4 April 2027 at the Viaduct Events Centre, Jellicoe Harbour and Wynyard Wharf in central Auckland.
