GB1, the British America’s Cup Challenger, has sustained damage to its AC40 race boat following an incident with another team’s chase boat while training on the Bay of Naples ahead of the second Preliminary Regatta of the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup
The incident occurred on the racecourse as GB1 was preparing for its first practice race start of the regatta alongside nine other AC40s.
All sailors onboard GB1’s AC40 and personnel onboard the Tudor Team Alinghi chase boat were safe and accounted for following the incident. GB1 starboard helm Dylan Fletcher sustained a minor facial injury.
GB1’s AC40 returned to shore following the incident, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed by the team.
