The Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup represents an extraordinary opportunity not only for the world of sport, but also for Italian schools. In this light, the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit has seized this opportunity to launch a wide-ranging educational programme designed to actively involve students and teachers through educational, creative and participatory experiences.
Today, at the NEXT GEN stand in the Official Race Village on the Lungomare Caracciolo, representatives of the America’s Cup organising team, ACE, Alice Musto and Eduardo Emiliani, presented to students and teachers the importance of bringing together student delegations from the countries participating in the America’s Cup to jointly develop a shared vision on the journey towards Naples 2027 and to provide an opportunity to imagine new partnerships and new international educational pathways, connecting schools, students and teachers throughout the year leading up to the regattas. Starting in Naples, the aim is to create an international educational community that can grow and continue collaborating on the journey towards the 2027 America’s Cup.
Further creative challenges in the NEXT GEN plan include themes around ‘The Sea Everywhere,’ with students being asked to devise new ways of telling the story of the sea, sailing and the values of the competition through the eyes of younger generations, with the aim of symbolically bringing the ‘sea everywhere’ – including to places where it cannot physically reach.
With a focus on education routes, one workshop will bring together Italian teachers and international experts to test and develop the America’s Cup Educational Kit, using sport as a means of generating new knowledge and transferable skills. Through an interdisciplinary approach connecting science, technology, sustainability, maritime culture and citizenship, teachers will explore and enhance activities, tools and content that can be made available to schools, helping to build an educational programme that will accompany students on the journey towards Naples 2027.
NEXT GEN will be running further workshops throughout the year and will be onsite at the Official Race Village through to the end of the Naples Preliminary Regatta.
