Le Français, France’s renowned heritage tall ship, has been refitted with International products ahead of the 2026 season, including an appearance at Le Grand Pavois La Rochelle in September.
Under an exclusive partnership with Marine Évènements, AkzoNobel supplied a complete above- and below-the-waterline coating system for the 78-year-old three-masted barque. The project, carried out across St. Malo, Concarneau, La Rochelle and Brest, included primers, topcoats and antifouling solutions, supported by AkzoNobel’s technical team throughout preparation and application.
Built in Denmark in 1948 as Kaskelot for the Royal Greenland Trading Company, Le Français remains one of the few working tall ships still actively operated today. Based in St. Malo, the vessel supports educational sailing programmes for around 2,600 young people each year and helps promote awareness of climate change through its partnership with Témoins Polaires.
Successfully relaunched in Concarneau, Le Français is now ready for a busy schedule of charter and educational voyages.
