New Zealand ILCA 6 sailor Chloe Turner has claimed bronze at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, just weeks after winning bronze at the Youth European Championships in Greece.
The 17-year-old Aucklander secured third overall after strong performances in the final gold fleet races, finishing behind Greece’s Hermionie Ghicas and Ireland’s Sienna Wright.
Turner said back-to-back podium finishes in very different sailing conditions showed her progress and highlighted the value of New Zealand’s training programmes. She has been working closely with the national ILCA 6 squad, coach Tom Saunders, and former Olympian Sara Winther.
The event featured 122 female sailors from 35 nations and 429 competitors overall from 45 countries. Turner, the reigning ILCA 6 Under-17 world champion, still has another year of youth competition ahead as she targets the Youth World Championships in Vilamoura later this year.
In the boys’ fleet, Tom Pilkington was the top New Zealander, finishing 16th overall.
