Fishing licences are on sale ahead of the October 1 season opener, with Fish & Game encouraging anglers to get prepared early.
Fish & Game New Zealand has also launched a new Fishing Knowledge Hub, an online resource offering practical guides and videos covering licences, fishing locations, gear selection, reading water, and preparing fish for the table.
Chief executive Corina Jordan said the hub caters to both beginners and experienced anglers, helping more people enjoy New Zealand’s world-class trout fishing. She highlighted the wellbeing benefits of fishing, including time outdoors, connecting with whānau and friends, and providing wild kai.
Jordan also encouraged more women to take up fishing, describing it as a rewarding way to spend time outdoors and bring home healthy food.
The 2026-27 season licences are available online and from accredited sports shops www.fishandgame.org.nz to buy a licence and click the link to explore the Fishing Knowledge Hub.
