Island Cruising: The Musket Cove Regatta 40th Anniversary is a huge hit!

Over the last few days, the Island Cruising Pacific Rally participants and other cruisers in Fiji have been celebrating the Musket Cove 40th anniversary of Regatta Week.
Held mid-September each year, this iconic event regularly attracts over 100 yachts to fill up the bay and enjoy the packed schedule of events.

Parties included a welcome dinner and band, Pirate Day at Beachcomber Island where sailors are required to walk over hot coals and be vaccinated by a Fiji rum shot on arrival. The swashbuckling continues throughout the day with a limbo challenge, Fijian fire dancers, and a packed dancefloor.

The Round Malolo Classic takes the yachts around the Island for the day. Light breezes made it a long day on the water.

One of the evening parties was a “Party Like Its 1982” and the sailors all got into the spirit of the event with some fabulous costumes.

The hotly contested Hobie Cat match racing regatta is spread over a few days and was won by Vaughan & Flynn Johnson from Bella Vita.
Other events included a beach clean, fun run, kids games, and a fabulous closing day party complete with an incredible fireworks display.

Huge thanks to the Opua Business Association and the many businesses who sponsor this fantastic event with some incredible prizes and giveaways, and to the Musket Cove team for putting on an incredible few days. We all loved it!
