A prestigious history

The Admiral’s Cup, established in 1957, is often referred to as the “unofficial world championship of offshore racing.” Its unique team-based format, traditionally involving three boats per nation, has been a hallmark of international yachting, testing crews across inshore and offshore challenges.

The 2025 edition sees the format streamlined to two yachts per team, reflecting contemporary trends in the sport while maintaining its historical essence. This evolution ensures the competition remains both accessible and fiercely competitive, attracting the best yachts and sailors from around the globe.

For 2025, RNZYS will proudly field a formidable two-yacht team:

  • Callisto (Custom Botin IRC 42): Owned by James Murray, Callisto is a masterclass in precision and speed. Designed for the competitive IRC rating rule, this vessel and its experienced crew are tailored for success on both inshore and offshore courses.
  • Caro (Custom Botin IRC 52): Max Klink’s Caro is no stranger to international success. With a proven track record, including performances in multiple Sydney to Hobart races, Caro combines advanced technology and exceptional craftsmanship to shine on any stage.

Commodore Gillian Williams of RNZYS expressed her enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to send Callisto and Caro to the Admiral’s Cup under the RNZYS banner. This event is a hallmark of international sailing, and we are confident that our team’s skill and determination will serve them well on the racetrack and make our members proud.”

The Admiral’s Cup offers another opportunity to showcase New Zealand’s prowess on the global stage. With a rich history of international victories and a steadfast commitment to advancing the sport, RNZYS is poised to make a strong impression.

The road to glory

The 2025 Admiral’s Cup promises a thrilling mix of inshore and offshore racing, testing the limits of strategy, skill, and endurance. As RNZYS prepares to take on the world’s best, the entire New Zealand sailing community will undoubtedly rally behind their team.
