The Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit is set to reconvene for its highly anticipated second edition, taking place at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Hong Kong on 7 and 8 May 2025. With the Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association (APSA) as a Supporting Partner, the event will bring together industry leaders, yacht owners, and policymakers to discuss the evolving superyacht market in the region.

With a diverse lineup of topics and speakers, the Summit aims to address key trends, challenges, and opportunities in the Asia-Pacific yachting landscape. Among the proposed topics are Japan’s emergence as a superyacht destination, Vietnam’s governmental push towards yachting tourism, the role of family offices in the yachting sector, and the expansion of the refit market in Asia.

Japan’s growing potential as a superyacht destination

With an expansive 35,000-kilometre coastline and a mix of modern marinas and untouched cruising grounds, Japan is fast becoming a sought-after destination for superyachts. Recent regulatory changes have streamlined the process for foreign-registered yachts, making it easier for international vessels to visit.

This panel discussion will delve into the regulatory improvements Japan has introduced and what further steps are needed to position the country as a premier yachting destination. As the Asia-Pacific superyacht market continues to expand, Japan’s strategic enhancements are helping to put it firmly on the global yachting map.

Vietnam’s government-backed push for yachting

Vietnam’s yachting industry has gained significant momentum, particularly following the announcement by the country’s Ministry of Transport in December 2024. The proposal, spearheaded by Hoang Hong Giang, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, outlines an ambitious plan to establish yachting as a flagship tourism sector by 2030.

A dedicated panel will explore the key aspects of this proposal, the initiatives being implemented to promote Vietnam as a superyacht destination, and the challenges that must be addressed to achieve its long-term goals. With Vietnam’s strategic location and pristine coastlines, the industry is poised for significant growth if infrastructure and policies align with market demand.

The role of family offices in the yachting industry

For ultra-high-net-worth individuals, yachts are more than just luxury assets—they serve as lifestyle investments, business tools, and even family legacies. This session will examine how family offices, which manage private wealth portfolios, approach yachting from an investment and asset management perspective.

Industry experts will provide insights into the ways family offices integrate yachts into broader financial planning, the increasing interest in sustainable yacht ownership, and how yachting fits into generational wealth transfer strategies.

Developing the refit market in the Asia-Pacific region

As more yachts visit the Asia-Pacific region, the demand for high-quality refit and maintenance services continues to grow. However, with limited top-tier refit yards, many owners and captains still send their vessels to Europe or Australia for major overhauls.

This session will explore the potential for developing world-class refit facilities in Asia, addressing factors such as location, investment requirements, and the infrastructure needed to support a booming refit market. The discussion will also cover best practices from established refit centres and how Asia can position itself as a competitive alternative.

Marina developments shaping the future of Asia-Pacific yachting

The Summit will also feature presentations on recent marina developments across the region. With increasing investment in waterfront infrastructure, new marina projects are emerging in key destinations, promising to enhance the yachting experience for owners and operators alike.

These presentations will highlight the motivations behind these developments, their expected impact on local and regional yachting communities, and how they contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Asia-Pacific superyacht market.

Industry support and sponsorship

The Summit has already attracted strong industry backing, with leading names signing on as sponsors. Fema Marine joins as the Patronage Sponsor, while Damen serves as an Event Partner. Other sponsors include Gulf Craft, Zairos, and Ferretti Group, with Camper & Nicholson as Gold Sponsors and YachtEye as a Silver Sponsor.
