A highlight for Kiwi attendees was the strong presence of New Zealand boat builders, who continue to impress on the global stage with their craftsmanship and innovation. Extreme Boats, Haines Hunter, White Pointer, and Stabicraft showcased a range of vessels suited for both inshore and offshore conditions, drawing significant interest from visitors.
Organised by the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV), the show concluded on Sunday with exhibitors and organisers hailing it a success. The event’s stunning waterfront setting, combined with near-perfect weather on Saturday, created an ideal atmosphere for both exhibitors and visitors. Spread across the Royal Geelong Yacht Club marina, Stony Pier Lane, Fairnie Park, and Transvaal Square, the boutique layout provided an excellent experience for all involved.
An estimated 4,000–5,000 visitors attended over the two days, taking in not only the boat show but also the Offshore Superboats racing, yacht club sailing, and regular waterfront activities. Exhibitors praised the quality of the crowd, noting strong brand engagement, solid lead generation, and genuine buyer interest. Many exhibitors reported meaningful interactions, with discussions often leading to serious purchase inquiries.
BIAV CEO Steve Walker applauded the 25 high-calibre exhibitors, stating, “Well done to the exhibitors for displaying an incredible selection of fishing, cruising, ski, paddle, and sailing boats, alongside a range of boating accessories and services. We also extend our gratitude to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, the City of Greater Geelong, and all supporters who contributed to making this first-time event a success.”
Among the show’s standouts was Bar Crusher, which was awarded Best Exhibit for its expansive display covering the club entrance, the lawn, and the marina, complete with sea trials. General Manager Sam Holmes expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Bar Crusher Boats enjoyed being part of the inaugural Geelong Boat Show. The combination of on-water access and the picturesque setting made for a spectacular experience for our guests.”
Another award recipient was Jim Sismanes of Premier Yachting, who won the Know Your BIAV Quiz with an impressive 9/10 score, showcasing his extensive industry knowledge.
Exhibitors widely praised the event’s impact. Inverloch Marine GM James Cody remarked, “We found the inaugural show to be excellent. Even Sunday’s wet weather didn’t deter visitors, and we left with strong leads. We’ll certainly be back if the event returns.” Chris Sawyer from AWS Action Watersports added, “We loved our location, made great connections, boosted brand awareness, and even secured a few sales.” Scott O’Hare of Aussie Boat Sales echoed the sentiment, describing the show as “a great event with genuine interest, solid leads, and positive results.”
BIAV will now review exhibitor and visitor feedback to determine the show’s future, considering its place among other events across Victoria.
