A new member of the Innovision Boats Active range is nearing launch, with the first IV616 Active currently in the final stages of its build. The all-new centre console model is already drawing interest among Kiwi anglers thanks to its updated hull design, serious fishability, and reputation for ride quality shared across the Active series.

The 616 slots in just above the IV555—the model reviewed by Boating New Zealand  August 2023 in a field test helmed by lure-fishing evangelist Paul Senior and veteran boating writer John Eichelsheim. Their verdict? “A pure lure-fishing weapon,” with its wide walkaround layout, ultra-stable hull, and minimal-clutter approach winning top marks for function-first fishers.

The new 616 model carries that same ethos forward but adds more size, more comfort, and new-generation hull geometry. It’s a significant evolution for those wanting big performance in a compact platform.

Meet the Active range

The Innovision Active series is a family of alloy centre console and cabin boats built with one thing in mind: space to fish. From the compact 515 to the burly 909, every model features a full walkaround cockpit, self-draining deck, and marine-grade alloy construction. With centre console layouts, there’s unrestricted access around the entire boat—ideal for working lures, chasing birds, or fighting big fish at any angle.

But it’s not just about access. These boats are built with safety in mind, too. Every Active model features twin buoyancy tanks and an integral gunnel flotation ring, designed to help prevent rollover in the event of a swamping. It’s one of the most thoughtful safety designs in the Kiwi trailer boat market.

A bigger, bolder 616

The new 616 Active offers a notable step up in capability over the 555. It’s based on Innovision’s latest-generation hull, featuring increased flare and a redesigned sheer line for a drier, softer ride. That means more comfort offshore and more confidence when the conditions get choppy.

The larger footprint also allows for a more extensive build spec. The first customer boat, owned by a keen fisho named Warren, is being kitted out with:

  • Transom cage with extra rod holders
  • Deluxe bait station and integrated live bait tank
  • Garmin electronics suite
  • Custom hinging T-top with Bimini for shade and storage

As the Innovision team put it: “A compact, go-anywhere rig that punches well above its weight.”

The 555: proven platform, purpose-built

The IV555, launched in 2023 and reviewed by Boating New Zealand on August that year, was already a standout in its class. At 5.56 metres LOA and powered by a 150hp Honda outboard, the 555 delivered a surprisingly soft and dry ride with real agility. The review team praised its “cushion of air” feel, excellent hull balance, and thoughtful layout.

Key features of the IV555 included:

  • Wide walkaround console with seating front and rear
  • Under-gunwale rod storage for 8’6” rods
  • Elevated twin swim platform cages with drop-down boarding ladders
  • Generous internal volume despite the compact footprint

According to Paul Senior, who had previously owned the even smaller IV515, the jump to the 555 felt significant. “Less than half a metre might not seem much, but the 555 is quite a step up in physical size,” he said. The same logic now applies as anglers move up again to the 616.

What’s new in this 616?

While the 555 and 616 both share Innovision’s core principles of strength, safety, and purposeful fishability, this particular 616 stands apart thanks to a customised build tailored to its new owner’s fishing needs:

Feature IV555 IV616
LOA 5.56m 6.16m
Beam 2.3m Wider (unpublished, but larger cockpit footprint)
Hull Previous-gen New-gen with more flare and softer entry
Transom Options Twin cage, single ladder Custom cage, dual ladder, walk-throughs
Bait Station Tackle drawer + board Upgraded deluxe station plus live bait tank
T-top Optional Bimini Custom hinging T-top with Bimini
Electronics Raymarine (in review) Garmin suite (616 build)
Rod Storage 6 under-gunwale + flush mounts More extensive rod and utility storage

The shift from the 555 to 616 isn’t just about length. It’s about usability in more challenging conditions, the ability to carry more gear and crew, and the inclusion of tech like Zipwake trim tabs, trolling motor mounts, and increased electronics capability.

A platform that grows with you

For Innovision, the Active range is a modular platform—customisable for anglers, divers, and explorers alike. Whether it’s the compact 515 for estuary flicking or the upcoming 909 for serious offshore hunting, every model in the line offers serious stability, safety, and clean, smart layouts.

With the IV616 Active, Innovision now has a standout performer in the 6-metre class. It’s built for the angler who wants serious capability in a trailerable package—more offshore muscle, more deck space, and more comfort, all without stepping up to a large hardtop.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one once it hits the water.
