Hinckley unveils Picnic Boat 45 as new flagship of iconic range

Written by

The latest evolution of one of boating’s most recognisable designs has arrived, with Hinckley Yachts unveiling the Picnic Boat 45 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show.

Positioned as the new flagship of the Picnic Boat line, the 45 builds on more than three decades of Downeast design, blending traditional styling with a stronger focus on onboard social spaces and modern propulsion.

“The Picnic Boat has never been just a yacht; it represents a distinctly Hinckley way of being on the water,” said Gavin McClintock. “For decades, it has defined a style of boating centered on ease, elegance, and time shared with friends and family. With the Picnic Boat 45, we’ve evolved that icon into our most social design yet, expanding the spaces where people gather while preserving the effortless handling and timeless lines that make a Hinckley unmistakable.”

The new model introduces a reworked deck layout aimed at improving flow between cockpit, bow, and swim platform. The aft cockpit remains the primary gathering space, with configurable seating and dining arrangements, while a forward lounge and integrated bow seating create additional zones for relaxation.

A key feature is the adaptable stern platform, which functions as a boarding staircase at the dock and lowers at anchor to form a swim terrace. The layout reflects a broader shift towards lifestyle-driven design, with an emphasis on ease of movement and time spent at anchor.

Below deck, the Picnic Boat 45 offers two cabins, a head, and storage suited to both day use and short cruising.

Performance comes from twin 725hp diesel engines from Volvo Penta, paired with Hamilton waterjets from HamiltonJet. The setup delivers an estimated top speed of around 40 knots and a cruising speed near 34 knots, alongside shallow draft capability and precise low-speed handling.

At just under 50 feet overall, the Picnic Boat 45 represents a clear step forward in scale and intent. For Hinckley, it signals that even a long-established design can continue to evolve, without losing the core characteristics that made it successful in the first place.
