Volvo Penta has unveiled its most powerful Aquamatic DPI package yet – the D6-480 DPI – designed to deliver increased horsepower, expanded installation options, and a seamlessly integrated onboard experience. Combined with Volvo Penta’s next-generation Autopilot and electronic steering, the new package raises the bar for precision and control at sea.
Power and versatility in one package
The D6-480 DPI expands Volvo Penta’s world-leading Aquamatic DPI sterndrive range, offering a scalable solution for single, twin, triple, or quadruple installations. This makes it suitable for a wide variety of boats, from high-performance leisure craft to commercial applications, and an attractive option for both repower projects and new builds.
Ludvig Börjesson, Product Planner at Volvo Penta, says:
“With the D6-480 DPI we are further strengthening the Aquamatic DPI range by offering a complete, integrated package that delivers comfort, performance, and onboard flexibility – perfect for modern boat owners and commercial operators looking for an upgrade in every sense.”
Integrated helm-to-prop technology
At the core of the package is Volvo Penta’s helm-to-propeller system, which synchronises features such as Joystick Driving, Assisted Docking, and Autopilot – all accessible through the Glass Cockpit System. This integration brings automotive-like ease of use to boating, enabling precise manoeuvring, stress-free docking, and smoother long-distance cruising.
Performance engineered for control
With rapid acceleration, high marine torque, and responsive handling, the D6-480 DPI delivers impressive performance while contributing to fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Paired with Volvo Penta’s Duoprop technology, the system ensures exceptional grip and stability, enabling tight turns at speed – a vital advantage for high-speed and commercial operations alike.
More space, more comfort
The sterndrive configuration provides an open transom, unlocking valuable aft deck space for swim platforms or flexible layouts. Boaters gain closer access to the water, better visibility, and greater freedom to design the onboard environment for comfort or utility.
A hydraulic clutch enables silent, smooth shifting, while electronic steering enhances handling precision. The lower centre of gravity improves ride comfort and safety, particularly in rough seas.
Built for longer days on the water
Durability and low maintenance are central to the Aquamatic DPI concept. The D6-480 DPI is designed for extended service intervals and global support, giving boaters more time on the water and less time in the yard. Warranty coverage of up to three years (depending on application and market) further underlines Volvo Penta’s commitment to reliability.
Martin Jufors, VP of Marine Sales, adds:
“Performance and handling. Onboard comfort and convenience. Fuel efficiency and ease of use across the lifecycle. The D6-480 DPI offers new levels of freedom and flexibility – adding value for commercial operators, leisure boaters, and boatbuilders alike.”
