Emirates Team New Zealand has been named the 2025 World Sailing Team of the Year, an accolade that acknowledges not only their sustained dominance on the water but also the culture of collaboration and innovation that underpins their success.
The award follows the team’s historic third consecutive America’s Cup victory in Barcelona in 2024, a triumph that firmly cemented their place among the most successful in the Cup’s long and storied history. Yet for the team’s leadership, this latest honour carries special significance — it celebrates the collective, not the individual.
“This recognition is especially meaningful to us because it is not about any one person. It’s about the strength of the team,” said Kevin Shoebridge, Chief Operating Officer of Emirates Team New Zealand. “Every single person in our organisation — from the sailors and designers to the boatbuilders, shore crew, and the families who support us — plays a crucial role in what we achieve together. This award belongs to all of them.”
The World Sailing Team of the Year Award is presented to recognise excellence achieved through unity, a value deeply woven into Emirates Team New Zealand’s DNA. From their cutting-edge design philosophy to their collaborative approach across disciplines, the team’s success has long rested on trust, respect, and a relentless drive for perfection.
That same ethos extends beyond the racecourse. Upon receiving the award, Emirates Team New Zealand paid tribute to their fellow nominees, acknowledging the passion and depth of talent across the global sailing community. Special praise was directed toward Dani A Pich, the blind sailor from Yes We Sail, whose solo circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight earlier this year captured worldwide admiration. Emirates Team New Zealand supported Pich and his crew during the America’s Cup in Barcelona and continues to advocate for greater inclusivity and accessibility in the sport.
