Bay of Islands Sailing Week 2026 approaches

Written by

Bay of Islands Sailing Week is just around the corner, returning from 19 to 23 January 2026. Now in its twenty-third year, the regatta remains a summer fixture for crews from around New Zealand and overseas, offering four days of racing in one of the country’s most scenic sailing regions.

Sailors can look forward to a familiar programme of various racing and island courses, with divisions for open racing, island racing, sports boats and the Young 88 fleet. The Notice of Race confirms a busy on-water schedule, with the first warning signal at 10:25am each day and up to three races for many divisions.

Entries are already building. Organisers are encouraging skippers to get their paperwork in early, and anyone still looking for a spot aboard can make use of the regatta’s Crew Finder, which remains the easiest way to match skippers and sailors ahead of race week.

January usually delivers some of the best conditions in the Bay, and the regatta continues to balance competitive sailing with easy evenings ashore at many towns in the Bay of Islands. Whether you race a keelboat, trailer yacht, multihull or sports boat, Bay of Islands Sailing Week is a straightforward addition to any summer sailing plan.
