Coastguard phone lines offline briefly for system upgrade this Wednesday

Written by

Coastguard New Zealand will take several phone lines offline on Wednesday, 10 December, from midday while it carries out a short upgrade to its communication systems. The work is expected to take around 20 minutes.

During the pause, Coastguard’s direct landlines and the well-used *500 number won’t be available. Boaties who need to get in touch should use 0800 BOATIE (0800 262 843) or call on VHF. As always, anyone dealing with an urgent on-water emergency should dial 111.

The upgrade is part of Coastguard’s ongoing effort to keep its services reliable and easy to reach, especially during the busy summer boating season.

Coastguard is asking boaties to make note of the alternative contact details for the short window on Wednesday, and thanks everyone for their understanding while the work is carried out.
