Nathan Outteridge brings trusted New Zealand flight control experience into Artemis SailGP as the team builds a formidable lineup for its first championship season.
Nathan Outteridge has reunited with long time sailing ally Andy Maloney, confirming the New Zealand sailor as flight controller for Artemis SailGP’s debut campaign in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship.
The signing brings one of SailGP’s most experienced and composed flight specialists into the Artemis cockpit, strengthening a team that Outteridge has steadily assembled with clear intent and depth across key roles.
For Outteridge, the move is both familiar and strategic. He and Maloney sailed together to victory at the 2024 America’s Cup as part of Emirates Team New Zealand, forging a working relationship built on trust, precision, and shared understanding under pressure.
While both sailors have extensive SailGP experience, the 2026 season will mark the first time they campaign together across a full championship.
Maloney arrives at Artemis following recent seasons with the Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team and New Zealand’s Black Foils. Across those programmes, he has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable operators in the league, known for calm decision making and precise control of the F50’s foiling systems.
In SailGP, the flight controller role is central to performance. Managing foil rake, rudder settings, ride height, and stability at speeds approaching 50 knots, the position demands constant micro adjustments and sharp judgement. It is a role where confidence, restraint, and timing matter as much as aggression.
Outteridge said Maloney’s experience and temperament made him a natural fit as Artemis prepares for its first season.
“Andy and I have shared some incredible moments on the water,” Outteridge said.
“We’ve both raced in SailGP before, but this is the first time we’ll be on the same team for a full season. Andy’s one of the sharpest flight controllers in the game and having him onboard gives us a huge advantage. I’m excited to sail with him again, this time with Artemis.”
Maloney said the opportunity to help shape a new SailGP team from the ground up was a major drawcard.
“Joining Artemis SailGP is a really exciting step,” Maloney said.
“There’s a clear vision here, and the chance to help build a new team is something I’m really motivated by.
“I’ve raced both with and against Nathan and Chris plenty of times, and now teaming up with them again in SailGP feels like the right challenge at the right time. I’m proud of my journey in the league so far and now it’s about bringing that experience into Artemis and helping build something world class.”
Maloney’s signing completes a lineup that underlines the seriousness of Artemis’ debut ambitions. Alongside Outteridge and Maloney, the team includes Chris Draper, Julia Gross, Brad Farrand, and Julius Hallström, combining America’s Cup pedigree, SailGP race experience, and technical depth.
The roster reflects a deliberate approach by Outteridge, with each role filled by sailors proven at the highest level rather than development projects. The balance of experience and specialist skill positions Artemis as a credible contender from its first start.
Artemis SailGP will make its championship debut at the opening event of the 2026 season, the Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix presented by KPMG, scheduled for 17 and 18 January.
As the countdown begins, the reunion between Outteridge and Maloney signals more than familiarity. It marks the foundation of a team built to compete from day one.
