Weather holds play at Wanganui as rain continues

Persistent rain continues to hold play at Wanganui, with conditions showing no sign of easing as of 2:40 pm.

The earlier pause in racing, initially called to allow a passing shower to clear, is now expected to extend as rain continues to fall across the course. Visibility remains limited, and surface conditions have deteriorated, particularly through tighter sections where precision and sightlines are critical.

The weather had already begun to influence the post-lunch session. Several runs were affected by reduced visibility and changing grip, increasing the workload on drivers and navigators. The conditions contributed to incidents earlier in the afternoon, including a heavy impact involving Ruby Berry during her run. Berry was not injured, exited the boat safely, and later returned to the bank to speak with the crowd, drawing applause for her composure. The response highlighted the effectiveness of the safety systems and on-water crews.

With rain continuing and no immediate improvement visible, officials are taking a cautious approach before restarting competition. This is particularly relevant for developing competitors, where clear sightlines and consistent conditions are essential.

Organisers remain in close communication with teams and safety personnel, and further updates will be provided once conditions improve or a revised schedule is confirmed.
