Grand Banks Yachts 54 at the 2026 Auckland Boat Show

Seventy years is no small milestone in boatbuilding. In that time, Grand Banks Yachts has built a reputation on long-range cruising, efficiency and quiet confidence at sea.

At the 2026 Auckland Boat Show, the brand will celebrate that legacy on the water at Jellicoe Harbour from 5 to 8 March, with the acclaimed Grand Banks 54 on display.

A long range cruiser shaped by experience

The Grand Banks 54 sits firmly in the long range cruiser category, yet it blends classic proportions with modern performance. It reflects decades of refinement rather than reinvention.

Earlier this year at boot Düsseldorf, the yard presented a custom built GB54 EU Edition tailored for Mediterranean and Northern European waters. That edition showcased a contemporary European interior, bright teak joinery and expansive glazing that floods the saloon with natural light.

The layout integrates lounge, dining and interior helm in one flowing space. An EU style galley keeps the cook connected to guests. Below, a three cabin arrangement includes a full beam master with en suite, a forward VIP and a twin guest cabin. It is a practical configuration for owners planning extended passages rather than short hops.

Outdoor spaces are equally considered. The cockpit features a back facing sofa and double transom doors that open onto an enlarged swim platform. A passerelle and cockpit capstans simplify stern to mooring in tight harbours.

Efficiency at the heart of the Grand Banks 54

Underneath the polished teak and refined joinery lies serious engineering. The Grand Banks 54 is powered by twin Volvo D13 900 hp engines, matched to the brand’s V Warp hull form.

That hull is central to the boat’s character. It delivers efficient cruising around 20 knots while maintaining stability and reducing fuel burn. For Kiwi owners contemplating coastal passages or Tasman crossings, that balance of speed and economy matters.

Boating New Zealand reviewed an earlier European specification 54 in 2014 and noted its quiet running, long range capability and ease of handling. More than a decade on, the platform remains recognisable, though steadily refined.

Mark Richards summed it up neatly earlier this year.

“As we approach our 70th anniversary, the GB54 reflects what our owners value most. Comfort, efficiency and the freedom to travel farther with confidence.”

That philosophy resonates strongly in New Zealand waters, where distances are real and weather windows matter.

On display at Jellicoe Harbour

Visitors to the 2026 Auckland Boat Show will be able to step aboard the Grand Banks 54 at the on water display in Jellicoe Harbour. The Grand Banks team will host private tours throughout the show.

For owners who value understated luxury and genuine offshore capability, this is a rare opportunity to experience one of the most admired long range cruisers in its class without leaving Auckland.
