The Super Cat class will align with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) for the 2026 season, becoming part of the new IHRA Offshore National Championship Series as the organisation looks to strengthen and unify offshore powerboat racing in the United States.
The move brings one of the sport’s most recognisable categories into IHRA’s inaugural offshore championship structure, with Super Cat teams set to contest a seven-race national series culminating in a World Championship finale later in the year.
IHRA says the 2026 Offshore Series will feature more than US$2 million in prize money and tow support, underlining what it describes as a long-term commitment to teams and the growth of offshore racing.
“Super Cat teams want a national platform that’s professional, consistent and built to grow,” said Super Cat class representative Vinnie Diorio. “IHRA has made it clear they’re serious through meaningful prize money, a real commitment to supporting teams on the road, and a broadcast strategy that helps our sport reach more fans and deliver more value for sponsors.”
Diorio said confidence among team owners had increased following IHRA’s early investment in the category, including a US$250,000 purse at Key West.
“IHRA didn’t just talk about raising the bar — they followed through,” he said. “The 2026 structure gives teams and partners something they can plan around with confidence.”
Eleven teams have already confirmed their participation for the 2026 campaign:
Dirty Money Racing
Speed Marine
Wicked
CR Racing
Team Farnsworth
Howe 2 Live Offshore
Lucky 13 Racing
CJ Grant Racing
EWB Racing
SV Offshore / Rollin Transport
Rip-It Racing
Super Cat remains one of offshore racing’s flagship classes, featuring twin-hull catamarans between 38 and 44 feet in length, powered by twin 850hp engines and capable of speeds approaching 140mph.
IHRA President Leah Martin said the addition of Super Cat was an important step in building a stronger national structure for offshore racing.
“This is about delivering a clear championship pathway, elevating the fan experience, and creating more visibility and value for teams, sponsors and host communities,” Martin said.
Founded as a racer-focused sanctioning body, IHRA oversees a range of motorsport disciplines including drag racing, offshore powerboating, stock cars and snowmobile competition.
